Bezan Announces Harper Government Funding for Stonewall Curling Club

02/19/2010

Stonewall, Manitoba – Stonewall and area curlers will benefit from upgrades to the Stonewall Curling Club thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

Today, James Bezan, Member of Parliament for Selkirk-Interlake, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification along with Darren Bednarek, president of the Stonewall Curling Club, announced the completion of upgrades to the reverse osmosis system at the Stonewall Curling Club.

“The Recreation Infrastructure Canada program puts Canadians to work and encourages greater participation in physical education and use of recreational facilities. Recreation facilities like the Stonewall Curling Club are where families come to stay fit and have fun.  Today's announcement is helping to ensure that families can continue to enjoy an active lifestyle in Stonewall,” said MP Bezan.

“We would like to thank the federal government for the funds towards the purchase of the stand for our reverse osmosis water system,” said Darren Bednarek, President of the Stonewall Curling Club. “It’s great to see that small organizations like ourselves can partner with the government of Canada to improve infrastructure in our facilities.”

The funding of $2,786 comes through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
